Installation with Google Tag Manager

The line of code below is a sample. Your own line with your ID is in your account.

As a “Custom HTML” tag with the trigger “All Pages”.

Requirement: Tag Manager is already installed on your website, and you may create and publish tags in the container.

Video, 85 seconds, no sound: the click path as a diagram, step by step. No screenshots; the same steps are below for reading.

Step by step

  1. In Tag Manager open your container and click “Tags” → “New”.
  2. Click “Tag Configuration” and choose “Custom HTML”.
  3. Paste the line of code for Tag Manager into the HTML field. Use the version here in which the ID is in the address.
  4. Click “Triggering” and choose “All Pages”.
  5. Give the tag a name, for example “Assistant”, and click “Save”.
  6. Click “Submit” at the top right and publish the new version. Only then is the tag active on your website.

Good to know

  • Via Tag Manager the code is not in the source text of your page. “Check installation” therefore cannot see it and says so. Open your website and see whether the assistant appears.
  • If your Tag Manager depends on a consent banner, the assistant only loads after consent, depending on your setting.
